Rolls-Royce Phantom Waterspeed Collection

It would be so easy for Rolls-Royce to make its Bespoke Collection cars appear too gaudy. Thankfully that’s not the case with the Phantom Waterspeed Collection though, which manages to look stunning yet tasteful.

Based on the Drophead Coupé, it has been inspired by Sir Malcolm Campbell’s record-breaking 1937 Bluebird K3 hydroplane boat (that was, incidentally, powered by the supercharged Rolls-Royce R V12 aero engine).

Fittingly, the Waterspeed Collection is presented in a nine-layer paint finish called Maggiore Blue. Echoing the K3’s colour scheme, this unique shade even extends to the engine, special eleven-spoke wheels, some dashboard elements and the steering wheel.

Other distinctive features include a hand-beaten brushed steel rear deck instead of the usual teak item. Also fitted are engraved door armrest caps, while an embroidered panel on the inside of the glovebox lid displays the water speed records broken by both the K3 and K4 Bluebird craft. Windchill Grey leather upholstery and Abachi wood trim complete the interior.

Production of the Phantom Waterspeed Collection is being limited to only 35 units. Each carries a price tag of £435,000.
